The Blue Tick Hound. Bred for hunting in dense forests and open terrain, where their vocalizations needed to carry far. And it certainly does!

Years ago, my husband and I came across a Blue Tick Hound running around on a state highway, and we stopped and picked her up and took her home. Not being able to find who she belonged to, and obviously, VERY pregnant, we took her to the vet a few days later.

The vet looked her over, felt her belly and said, "Eight to ten puppies, within a week." And, sure enough, a few days later she had EIGHT puppies! So, we had a lot of work to do finding them all good homes. The mother dog was used to roaming, and she would sometimes get away from us at night, and we could hear her baying from what seemed MILES away. We could hear our neighbors yelling: SHUT UP!!!!!!!!

Well, a good Blue Tick Hound doesn't understand what "shut up" means!
